Promotion of bone calcification (in vitro)
We need to take calcium to maintain strength of bones, as well as collagen to maintain flexibility of bones. We studied the effect of CTP-containing collagen on promotion of calcium (Ca) synthesis of the osteoblast.
Test for promotion of Ca synthesis of osteoblast
1) Methods
Adding CTP of 0, 1, 10 and 100 μg/mL to an osteoblast culture system every 24 hours for 23 days, and dyed calcium which mainly comprises calcified substance of the osteoblast with Alizarin Red S.
2) Results
It was verified that CTP addition accelarated Ca synthesis depending on its concentration as the typical models in the following pictures indicated.
3) Discussion
It is verified that CTP promoted bone calcification as well as collagen production which is necessary for bone formation. Therefore, we can expect that ingestion of CTP will contribute to make our bones strong and flexible.
