Gum heath (in vivo)
Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease: It causes your gums to become red, swollen, and bleed easily. You can prevent or reduce these symptoms by brushing your teeth regularly. However, busy lives can make it hard to take care of your teeth properly. If you don’t take care of your teeth for a long time, it can lead to more serious problems like periodontitis, where your gums and the bone that supports your teeth start to break down.
To find new ways to help with gum care, we studied the effects of taking CTP-containing collagen daily on gum health in animals with gingivitis.
Study on Beagle dogs with Gingivitis (in vivo)
1) Methods
- <Creating Gingivitis>
- We used eight female beagle dogs (about 32 months old). We tied dental floss around their front teeth and fed them soft food for eight weeks to cause gingivitis. After this period, we removed the floss and didn’t clean their teeth during the study.
- <Giving CTP-Containing Collagen>
- Four dogs received CTP tablets with their food, while the other four dogs (placebo group) only got solid food.
- <Evaluation>
- We looked at the tiny blood vessels in the gums under a microscope before and after the study.
We also collected gum tissue samples and stained them to see the changes.
2) Results
The dogs that took CTP showed significant improvements in their gum health. Their blood vessels looked better, there was less swelling, more collagen in the gums, and the gum tissue looked healthier. Blood flow in the gums also improved.
